Coercive control and domestic abuse often dismantle financial independence, quietly trapping women in toxic situations. Many stay far longer than they want to because they cannot afford to leave. Others face staggering legal costs once they do, navigating systems that are not always protective or fair. For women who stayed home with their children, leaving can mean starting over with no income, no career history, and no clear path forward.
I understand this position because I have lived it. Rebuilding while seeking emotional safety and clarity makes it nearly impossible to think clearly about finances, employment options, training, or available resources. Too often, support is difficult to find or exhausting to navigate.
The Lotus Bloom is a place to begin rebuilding financially. Here you’ll find personally curated links to essential support: food assistance, housing resources, employment tools, and free or low-cost financial consultations. This was created with the understanding that abuse impacts every part of daily life. Nothing here asks you to explain or prove what happened. These resources are here to support stability, autonomy, and safe rebuilding.
I chose to name this resource after the lotus flower because they are survivors. They grow in water where other plants would drown, rising through darkness and mud to bloom in the light. The lotus does not bloom because nothing happened—it blooms because it did. The lotus flower is a reminder that rebuilding after control, loss, and prolonged harm is possible.
“And the lotus will burst into bloom
As if nothing ever happened
As if nothing had shattered
The landscape of my life”
-Hagit Vardi
